Second Life continues to demonstrate what is possible with online 3D virtual worlds, being the most talked about and reported of several platforms online.

Cleartext and Second Life

Cleartext moved into Second Life in 2005 and built the IIA Island for the Internet Industry Association during 2006-7. The Internet Industry Association (IIA) is Australia's national Internet industry organisation.

This project was designed to give the IIA and it's members experience of virtual worlds as collaborative platforms. Second Life has email, IM, group chat and VoIP embedded in it's client software 'viewer'. Many brand names moved early on to setup a presence in Second Life.

The IIA Island was launched in october 2007 and the launch event hosted a seminar on the legal issues within Second Life. We'd like to thank the following sponsors for their support of this project;

  • Metaverse Ventures (donated the island)
  • Sophos
  • NineMSN
  • Optus
  • iiNet (hosting the streaming MP3's)
  • Destra (mp3.com.au) (provided MP3's of Aussie bands)

The IIA has an office, member area and auditorium in the 3D virtual world Second Life. The pictures above and video below show the build at 80% complete. Some interior 'fitting out' work, theater content and island scenery additions still to be finished.
